On August 26, Fundação Getulio Vargas’ School of Public Policy and Government (FGV EPPG) will hold an online and free talk about the COVID-19 pandemic’s challenges for public policy. The talk will be given by Giliberto Capano, a professor at the University of Bologna. The moderator will be Professor Fernando Filgueiras of FGV EPPG. The webinar will be broadcast in English (without simultaneous interpretation) on FGV’s YouTube channel, starting at 2 pm.

The COVID-19 pandemic is a major challenge for governments and public policy researchers. In fact, it is a litmus test for all existing theories on policymaking and governance. Such theories have been important in preparing robust policies and also in effectively reacting to the pandemic. They have also been useful in other political and administrative dimensions that are relevant to the legacy of policies, political dynamics, mass communication, political narratives and administrative capacity.

The talk will look at all these dimensions to show how the COVID-19 crisis has shed light on various flaws in the consensus view of academics in the area of policymaking and governance.
