Webinar discusses strategies for analyzing public debate on social networks

On September 2, Fundação Getulio Vargas’ Department of Public Policy Analysis (FGV DAPP), in partnership with Peruvian organization Ojo Público, will hold a webinar called “Digital Democracy Room: A Regional Strategy to Analyze Public Debate on Social Networks.” The event will be broadcast live on FGV’s YouTube channel, starting at 1 pm in Brazil (11 am in Peru).
The webinar will address challenges and tools for analyzing public debate and politics on social networks in Peru. The objective is to explain how messages are disseminated, how communities are formed around certain types of behavior and how social networks show events that stimulate society, especially during election campaigns. It is particularly relevant to analyze these issues as discussion grows about digital democracy and the strategies followed by interest groups that use these spaces in different parts of the world.
The debaters will be Samuel Rotta, the executive director of Proética, Transparency International’s office in Peru; Miguel Morachimo, the director of Hiperderecho, a Peruvian civil society organization focused on rights in digital environments; Ariel Riera, the coordinator of Chequeado, the Argentinean fact-checking agency that is a partner of the Digital Democracy Room; Michelle Meza, a researcher in civil technology and innovation; and Amaro Grassi, the coordinator of FGV DAPP. The discussion will be moderated by David Hidalgo, the director of Ojo Público. The event will take place in Spanish, without simultaneous interpretation.
