At a time when attention is focused on the Brazilian economy’s post-pandemic reaction, Fundação Getulio Vargas’ Brazilian Institute of Economics (FGV IBRE) is launching the Economic Cycle Portal today, October 1. FGV IBRE’s new communication channel, aimed at analysts, academics, journalists and other people who are interested in the subject, will present confidence, activity and other macroeconomic indicators calculated by FGV and other institutions. The goal is to allow data to be cross-checked quickly, provide relevant content for in-depth economic analysis and facilitate understanding of the economic situation.

“The Economic Cycle Portal will facilitate the work of people who are monitoring the Brazilian economy by compiling a comprehensive set of data, information and analysis on the subject on the same website. This launch is happening at a time of huge uncertainty regarding the cyclical dynamics of the economy, adding relevance to the set of information that is openly available,” explains Aloisio Campelo Jr., FGV IBRE’s public statistics superintendent.

Users will be able to choose which indicators they want to view and in which time period, allowing different interpretations of information. They will also be able to find the latest results of indicators calculated by FGV IBRE, press releases and their methodological notes.

The portal will also feature the “Cycle Clock,” a tool created to present Brazil’s economic cycles over time in a dynamic way. This tool will make it possible to perceive the main, coincident, leading and lagging behavior of various indicators.

In addition, the portal will host the website of the Economic Cycle Dating Committee (CODACE), bibliographies related to the topic, information on events, and recommended books and articles, among other support materials.
