FGV EMAp students among top performers in international mathematical Olympiad

Three students at Fundação Getulio Vargas’ School of Applied Mathematics (FGV EMAp), Bruno Visnadi da Luz, Rodrigo Ribeiro da Silva and João Pedro de Abreu Marciano, led by Professor Matheus Secco, were among the top performers in the Ibero-American Inter-University Mathematics Olympiad.
The competition took place online between October 20 and 25. It is an Olympiad for university students in Latin American countries. This year, teams from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala and Mexico took part.
Rodrigo and João Pedro won bronze, while Bruno took silver, putting him in the top 10 among the contest’s 100 participants.
“Taking part in mathematical Olympiads, whether at high school or university level, helps students develop a greater ability to solve problems and gives them contact with creative problems that demand much more than routine textbook exercises,” Professor Secco explains.
