Brazilian Economy Magazine launches blog to mark its 73rd anniversary

Brazilian Economy Magazine, published by Fundação Getulio Vargas’ Brazilian Institute of Economics (FGV IBRE), is turning 73 this month and it will gain an exclusive channel as of Wednesday, November 11: the Brazilian Economy Magazine Blog. The objective is to expand the discussion and analysis for which the magazine is known, through exclusive digital content, to make it easier to keep up with Brazilian economic debate.

“We took the first step in this direction last year, when we launched the magazine’s digital edition. The blog will now expand this path, complementing and updating our monthly content,” says Claudio Conceição, the executive editor of the magazine and blog.

In its launch edition, the blog will feature an article compiling key excerpts from interviews that former president Fernando Henrique Cardoso and ex-minister Antonio Defim Netto gave exclusively to the magazine. In the interviews, these important figures on the country’s political and economic stage both express concern about the federal government’s difficulty in making decisions and presenting a timely plan to meet Brazilian society’s expectations and support the economic recovery following the worse phase of the pandemic.

History

The Brazilian Economy Magazine was founded by Eugenio Gudin as part of a project to develop an economic research center at FGV, driven by the creation of a national accounts system, which resulted in the formation of FGV IBRE. Since then, the magazine has presented the opinions of major commentators, who analyze the country’s macroeconomic situation, as well as articles and interviews to contextualize the policies and factors influencing the economy. This coverage over the course of many decades is now a rich research source, accessible through a digitalized archive.
