Online event talks about interactive governance

Fundação Getulio Vargas’ School of Public Policy and Government (FGV EPPG) will hold a free online debate on interactive governance on Wednesday, November 25, at 2 pm. A talk will be given by Eva Sørensen, a professor of public administration and democracy at the Institute for Society and Globalization at Roskilde University, Denmark.

The idea is to explore tensions between traditional sovereign forms of political leadership and increasingly critical citizens who have triggered the emergence of new forms of leadership in liberal democracies. One very visible result of this is the proliferation of populist political leaders who claim to be on the side of critical citizens against the political establishment.

Another less noticed but highly promising result is interactive political leaders who seek to build alliances with citizens. In this context, the webinar will also address issues related to these leaders, who are altering the governance of public policies and enabling a new context of change in the functioning of governments.
