Female representatives of different sectors of society will participate in a debate called “The Economy, Politics, Energy and Women,” which FGV Energy will hold on December 7. The aim of the meeting, which will be broadcast live on FGV’s YouTube channel, starting at 6 pm, is to discuss how energy shortages and climate change directly affect women’s lives.

The speakers will be Ligia Schlittler, a partner in Tozzini Freire Advogados; Izabella Teixeira, of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA); Monique Gonçalves, Shell’s manager for government relations, strategy and planning; and Silvia Matos, a professor for FGV EPGE’s Professional Master’s in Economics and the technical coordinator of IBRE’s Macro Bulletin. The moderator will be Professor Fernanda Delgado, a strategic advisor at FGV Energy.

Energy plays a fundamental role for women and girls throughout the world, promoting health, security, education and economic opportunities. Without access to sanitary solutions and clean kitchens, millions of women and children suffer from diseases and premature death. In developing countries, they represent the majority of people who live in extreme poverty and they are the hardest hit by lack of energy and climate change. Achieving a fair and equitable energy transition will depend on efforts to address gender inequality, and access to energy will significantly help reduce this inequality.
