Funding and fairness in higher education is theme of online debate

Fundação Getulio Vargas’ School of Public Policy and Government (FGV EPPG) will hold a free webinar on Thursday, December 10, about Funding and Fairness in Higher Education. The event will be broadcast live on FGV’s YouTube channel, starting at 5 pm.
Higher education systems around the world are facing the challenge of expanding while offering all social groups equitable access to high-quality education. Funding mechanisms particularly affect the poorest students’ chances of accessing the courses and institutions that are most highly valued by society.
During the event, a new education policy report called “Funding and Fairness in Higher Education,” produced by D³e and supervised by André Vieira, a researcher at Rio de Janeiro Federal University, will be presented. This document discusses higher education policies and how they affect the democratization of educational opportunities. It describes models used in other countries (Australia, England, Portugal and South Africa), whose examples can contribute to discussion on how to improve fairness in higher education funding in Brazil.
Paulo Meyer, a professor at FGV EPPG and researcher at IPEA, will discuss the conclusions of this report. The moderator will be Professor Tássia Cruz of FGV EPPG.
