Online event discusses legal framework for early childhood

On December 15, at 10 am, the Center for Technology and Society (CTS) at Fundação Getulio Vargas’ Rio de Janeiro Law School will hold an event called “The Legal Framework for Early Childhood in the Judiciary.” In force in Brazil since March 2016, Law 13,257 of 2016 establishes guidelines for the formulation of public policies that prioritize children from 0 to 6 years of age.

The seminar is being organized by members of a research project called “Macrosystemic Analysis of Legal Data in Judicial Decisions and Assessment of Judicial Behavior,” which is examining the use of this law by the judiciary. In the webinar, the project team will discuss the methodology and preliminary results of this research, carried out this year.

The speakers will be Maíra Cardoso Zapater, an adjunct professor at Sao Paulo Federal University, who has a PhD in human rights from the University of Sao Paulo’s Law School; and Guilherme Jardim Duarte, who has a PhD in constitutional law from the University of Sao Paulo and is now doing a PhD in politics at Princeton University.

The moderator will be Natália Maia, a researcher at CTS, who is doing a PhD in social anthropology at Rio de Janeiro Federal University.
