Brazil-China Study Center holds public contest for book chapter on Belt and Road Initiative

The Brazil-China Study Center at Fundação Getulio Vargas’ Rio de Janeiro Law School has launched a public contest for additional chapters for “The Belt and Road Initiative: Perceptions in Brazil and China,” a book that will consist of articles written by renowned academics in the two countries, aimed at rectifying the shortage of consistent information on the Belt and Road Initiative.

Understanding Chinese foreign policy is essential for healthy and prosperous Sino-Brazilian relations. Both Brazil and China may intensify their global strategic partnership in the context of the Belt and Road Initiative, which is possibly China’s most important international strategy. The Special Declaration of Santiago, launched during the Second Ministerial Meeting of the China-CELAC Forum, states that “the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean are part of the natural extension of the Maritime Silk Road and indispensable participants in the Belt and Road Initiative’s international cooperation.”

The initiative’s official guidelines focus on five priorities for cooperation: policy coordination, infrastructure connectivity, barrier-free trade, financial integration and exchange between peoples. Although Brazil is not yet officially included as a participant in the Belt and Road Initiative, Chinese investments and companies are increasingly present in the country. Accordingly, a study about the Belt and Road Initiative and Sino-Brazilian cooperation is extremely pertinent.

The deadline for submitting chapter proposals is January 15, 2021, while the deadline for submitting final texts is April 2, 2021.
