The World Corona Changed: US, China and Middle Powers in the New International Order,” a book by Professor Renato Flôres of Fundação Getulio Vargas’ Brazilian School of Economics and Finance (FGV EPGE) and the director of FGV’s International Intelligence Unit (FGV NPII), has been approved by the editorial board of prestigious publisher Routledge, part of the London-based Taylor and Francis Group.

It will be one of the first books in the world to discuss changes to the international order caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. As well as broadening the debate about hegemony, usually centered on U.S.-China competition, including the growing role of intermediate powers on different continents, the book attempts to predict key trends in the new configuration. It will be part of Routledge’s “Innovations in International Affairs” series.

“It is important to emphasize that the book’s basic outline was initially formulated in a ‘Flash Note’ by FGV NPII [The World Corona Has Changed: Preliminary Thoughts on the Coming World Order, published in May 2020], which attracted the attention of international specialists and led to the invitation to submit an expanded version of the ideas contained in it, in the form of a book. This fact indirectly signals the international visibility of FGV’s products and documents,” says Professor Flôres.

The final version of the manuscript will be delivered in the first few months of 2021 and it is due to be launched by the middle of the year.
