Expert in public security to receive medal from BOPE

Professor Marco Tulio Zanini of the Brazilian School of Public and Business Administration (FGV EBAPE) will receive a “Special Operations Medal of Merit” at a ceremony at the Special Police Operations Battalion (BOPE), for his activities to support planning, management, officer training and applied research at the Rio de Janeiro State Military Police.

The Special Operations Medal of Merit was created to honor police officers, civic officials, military personnel and collaborators who have performed functions and contributed to the evolution and development of special policy operations at the Rio de Janeiro State Military Police, thereby warranting recognition from this organization. The medal has been awarded sporadically, the last time in 2012.

In addition to Professor Zanini, medals will be given to the presidential chief of staff, Walter Souza Braga Neto, and the governor of Rio de Janeiro, Cláudio Castro. The ceremony will take place on January 19, when BOPE’s 43rd anniversary will be celebrated.

For 10 years, Professor Zanini has been conducting applied research in the area of governance and team management for special operations in Brazil and abroad, aimed at improving indicators and management models. In 2014, his book “A Ponta da Lança” (Elsevier, 2014) was published.

Since 2018, Zanini has coordinated the MBA in Public Security at IDE/FGV, as part of the Rio de Janeiro State Military Police’s Officer Training Program and in partnership with the Military Policy Advanced Training School.

The program is an important part of the Rio de Janeiro State Military Police’s career training for officers, providing supplementary training via FGV.
