Professor Maria Lucia Padua Lima discussed the causes of Brazil's premature de-industrialization and features of the economy in the last twenty years.Professor and coordinator of International Relations at São Paulo Law School (FGV DIREITO SP), Maria Lucia Padua Lima, presented the work Brazil in the World Trade Scenario: Trade, Exchange Rate, and De-Industrialization, in Shanghai, China, during the 7th Conference of Global Studies, sponsored by Shanghai University. In her work, Maria Lucia discussed the causes of Brazil's premature de-industrialization and, for this purpose; she presents the features of the economy in the last twenty years. One of the research hypotheses originates from the analysis of the trade relations between China and Brazil and the impact of these relations in the Brazilian industrialization process. The discussion about the need for diversification of Brazilian exports has emerged once again in recent years due to its increasing concentration in the primary sector. The fact that China has become the main market for Brazilian exports is related to this growth in commodities exports with important developments in the productive structure of Brazil. Besides, competition imposed by Chinese manufactured goods has placed great challenges to industrial production in the country, explained the professor. The conference - a cooperation between universities in several countries - has already been held in Chicago, Dubai, Rio de Janeiro, Moscow and New Delhi. The 2015 edition is confirmed for July 20 and 21, in London.
