On July 9, Fundação Getulio Vargas and the Ports and Coasts Division (DPC) of the Brazilian Navy signed a partnership, at DPC's main offices, to offer a graduate course in Port Management, aimed at operators of ports and terminals in Rio de Janeiro. At the occasion, FGV was represented by the Director of Business Studies, Antonio Carlos Porto Gonçalves, FGV Corporativo's Director, Luiz Ernesto Migliora, the Chief of Staff of the Presidency of Companhia Docas do Rio de Janeiro and the course coordinator, Ailton Fernando Dias, the superintendent of Business Courses, Sandro Alan Ramos Rabelo, and the account executive, Paola Regazoni. The DPC in turn, was represented by the Vice-Admiral, Cláudio Portugal de Viveiros and members of the Superintendent of Maritime Professional Education.Students will have subjects like Management of Ports, Environment and Health in the Port Sector and Safe Logistics Chain and Automation of Cargo Terminals. According to Porto Gonçalves, trained professionals are expected to improve the management of Brazilian ports. The investment in ports is not just in the physical facilities. There are issues concerning management and staff education, in order to foster the productivity of Brazilian terminals. It is, therefore, a course with potentially far-reaching effects in the port area, explained the professor.Luiz Migliora also emphasized the importance of the program to the entire maritime sector in Brazil. We are developing a program that will certainly benefit the Navy and, consequently, other port authorities and shipping companies, said the director, who also highlighted the faculty of the course: We have professors who will combine theoretical content to practical experiments, enriching the learning process of students. The course will last approximately 14 months and it is scheduled to start on July 31.InternationalizationThe partnership with the Brazilian Navy is not the only featured initiative. Through a course conducted by FGV Corporativo in partnership with the Institute of Finance of São Paulo School of Business Administration (FGV/EAESP) - which took employees of Caixa Econômica Federal to the Business School of New York University (NYU- Stern Business School) - FGV was invited to extend the program to other students of the American university worldwide. According to Migliora, it is very unusual for an institution to receive this kind of invitation such as the one made by New York University. The project is expected to grow and involve other clients and areas of knowledge.
