The São Paulo Law School researcher (FGV DIREITO SP), Arthur Giannattasio, participated on Friday, July 11, in the International Conference Environment and Culture - La Tutela Giuridica della Diversità BioCulturale in Rome, Italy. The event was organized by the Università La Sapienza together with Università UNITELMA and Instituto Diritto Publico Comparato ed Europeo.Arthur presented the research Brazil and Biocultural Diversity: Legal Framework and National Developmental Issues, held in partnership with Aline Khoury, Master in Social Development from Université Paris V - Sorbonne Cité and cultural producer at the Institute of Brazilian Studies (IEB) of USP.The research addresses the use of legal measures to protect cultural biodiversity in Brazil, by looking at the relationship between Law and Development. The study was compared to similar legal analysis - also presented at the same meeting - made by experts on legal protection in Canada, India and Italy. The four countries hold a high degree of diversity in three fields explored by the topic: environment, agriculture and culture. The comparative study aimed to understand the national government and legal framework for the protection of this multiple biological and cultural diversity in each country, and then propose the best protection practices, explained Arthur. He also stated that this work has been developed for a year and could be further deepened. The results of the analysis were extracted after the event together with Italian and European specialists. The basic text of the presentation will be published by the end of the year in a collective work with other conference participants. The event was recorded and can be accessed here (in Italian).
