Prices on Valentine's Day are above inflation, according to IBRE

Even with the World Cup event, many of those in love will celebrate Valentine's Day in Brazil. But the couples that do not intend to let the date go by unnoticed will spend more when purchasing gifts and celebrating the date this year. A survey conducted by the economist of the Brazilian Institute of Economics (FGV/IBRE), André Braz, reveals that the average price of the most popular products and services became 7.13% more expensive between June 2013 and May 2014, exceeding the cumulative average inflation by the Consumer Price Index (IPC/FGV) - which was 6.57%.The items whose price increased the most were concerts (15.63%), theater (11.89%), jewelry (10.26%), hotel/motel (10.11%), meals in bars and restaurants (9.22%) and the movies (8.95%). The prices of men and women's clothing, male and female shoes also did not remain too far behind, with increases of 5.11%, 5.00%, 2.44% and 1.36%, respectively.Electronics were the only items that remained cheaper - videogames (-5.15%), mobile phones (-2.71%) and TV sets (-1.50%). Those who wish to give their valentine a computer will have to disburse 4.83% more than last year.
