Today Brazil has 136 million computers in use and in two years there will be one computer per capita in the country. These are some of the findings of the 25th edition of the research Management and Use of IT in Companies - conducted by the Center for Applied Information Technology (GVcia) of São Paulo School of Business Administration (FGV/EAESP) and released yesterday. The study seeks to quantify indicators to assist in monitoring and planning the use of Information Technology within organizations and included the participation of 6,000 medium and large national private equity companies through questionnaires asked by undergraduate and graduate students of EAESP. However, it also evaluated the domestic use of these technologies. In three or four years, tablets will already represent 13% of all computers in use, said the research coordinator, Professor Fernando Meirelles, in an article to Brasil Post.According to the survey, the number of computers in Brazil doubles every four years and it is expected to reach 200 million units by 2016. And this year, computer sales are expected to grow at a rate of 10% - lower than that recorded in 2013. Since we don't know how 2014 will be, 10% on top of a number that has grown almost 20% is a fairly large percentage for a vague economic situation, he said. The professor also highlighted that tablets should account for 40% of sales.Considering business use, the research shows that Microsoft still dominates the workstations with Windows, Office and Internet Explorer, and that the use of Linux in corporate servers has remained the same for four years. Furthermore, the study also found that organizations' expenditures with IT currently represent 7.5% of total spending - twice the rate of 14 years ago.Click here to learn more about the research IT Management and Use in Companies (in Portuguese).
