São Paulo Law School receives COAF Diploma of Merit in Brasília

São Paulo Law School of Fundação Getulio Vargas (DIREITO SP) received on April 9, a Diploma of Merit from the Board of Financial Activity Control (COAF) - a recognition for its contribution to the Brazilian system of prevention and fight against money laundering and terrorism financing, under the work performed by the Criminal Law Clinic of the School. The event held at the auditorium of the Ministry of Cities in Brasília was attended by the coordinator of the Clinic and creator of the project, Heloísa Estellita. In 2013, one of the prominent work of the Clinic was the development of the Prevention Guide to Money Laundering for Jewelers - done in partnership with the Brazilian Institute of Gems and Precious Metals (IBGM), with the support of COAF and the State Associations of Jewelers, besides the sponsorship of SEBRAE. It is a sector that works a lot with retail and has little access to more sophisticated information on the money laundering law. Therefore, we've developed the project of simplifying the legal language in order to offer practical guidance on how jewelers can adapt to the law, explained Heloísa.São Paulo Law School was the only private institution to receive this award. For 2014, the Criminal Law Clinic maintained its partnership with COAF, IBGM and CRECI-SP on three initiatives: development of a second edition of the Guide to Money Laundering Prevention for Jewelers with the addition of guidelines to fulfill obligations and list of risks; update the resolution of the Federal Council of Realtors (COFECI) according to the Laundering Act's amendment made in 2012; and preparation of the Prevention Guide for Money Laundering for the real estate sector. For more information about the Clinic, please click here (page in Portuguese).http://direitogv.fgv.br/clinica-direito-penal
