IGP-10 decreases, but food inflation accelerates in April

The General Price Index - 10 (IGP-10) calculated by the Brazilian Institute of Economy (FGV/IBRE) increased 1.19% in April, compared to the 1.29% rate recorded in March. The same period of the previous year recorded a 0.18% change, and the accumulated rate until April 2014 was 3.40%. In 12 months, the IGP-10 changed 7.77%.The deceleration is due to the decrease in the change rate of the Broad Producer Price Index (IPA) - one of the three components of the IGP-10 - which changed 1.42% in April, before the 1.65% rate in March. The Consumer Price Index (IPC), on the other hand, registered an increase, from 0.70% in March to 0.88%. Four of the eight classes of expenditure of the index recorded an increase in their change rates and the main highlight came from the Food group (1.21% to 1.71%). In this expenditure category, it is worth pointing out the behavior of the item green and vegetables, whose rate increased from 11.62% to 15.65%.The following groups also showed an increase in their change rates: Education, Reading and Recreation, Clothing, and Health and Personal Care. In these expenditure categories, we highlight the prices of airline tickets, clothing and medicine in general.The National Construction Cost Index (INCC) also recorded an increase in April, with a 0.39% change rate - above the result of the previous month, which was 0.31%.The IGP-10 is calculated based on prices collected between the 11th day of the previous month and the 10th of the reference month.
