On April 30, the Brazilian Institute of Economics (FGV/IBRE) and FGV Press will launch the book ?Gargalos e Soluções na Infraestrutura de Transportes? (Bottlenecks and Solutions in Transport Infrastructure). Organized by the coordinator of IBRE's Applied Economics department, Armando Castelar and the researcher Cláudio Frischtak, the work has ten items made by experts who analyze problems, recent changes and challenges in the Brazilian transport infrastructure.Besides diagnosing bottlenecks in the industry, the book suggests proposals and solutions for issues such as the inconsistencies between the need and supply of transport infrastructure in the country, low productivity, problems with the regulation and competition, financing, the relationship between public and private and the quality standards of the services. The subject, which has also been the topic of a seminar held by IBRE last year (please see here), is essential to understand the importance and urgency of the industry, which takes up investments of just over 2% of the GDP.The Chairman of the Infrastructure Council of the National Confederation of Industry (CNI) and author of the fourth book cover, José Mascarenhas, described as encouraging the understanding of the government on the need to move more firmly in the infrastructure area, proposing an extensive investment program. But at the same time he stressed that we still need to find ways to bring these advances to the reality of its implementation.
