Earlier this month, Fundação Getulio Vargas attended the Ibero-American Development Cooperation International Seminar, co-sponsored by DAPP-FGV, held in Madrid and it raised the issue of cooperation and economic integration between the Latin American subcontinent and the Iberian Peninsula, considering common policy issues and the role of multilateral organizations. Sponsored by Fundação Alternativas (Spain) in collaboration with Fundação Mario Soares (Portugal), CES/Lisbon (Portugal), Instituto AlterBrasil, Banco Santander and DAPP-FGV, the seminar was structured around three axes: Ibero-American integration and regional development; international cooperation and transnational mechanisms and experiences of democracy renewal, or how governments can approach the general public.In the opening panel, FGV's president, Carlos Ivan Simonsen Leal, discussed how Latin American and Iberian countries can build synergies allowing the continuity of Latin American development and the recovery of the Portuguese and Spanish economies. He was joined by the Governor of the State of Rio Grande do Sul, Tarso Genro; the director of the Foreign Policy Center of Fundação Alternativas, Nicolás Sartorius; the professor of UERJ, José Maurício Domingues, the Secretary General of the Ibero-American General Secretariat (Segib), Enrique Iglesias; the Ambassador of Brazil in Madrid, Paulo César de Oliveira, and the professor at PUC-SP, Ladislaus Dowbor.Professor Marco Aurélio Ruediger - FGV's Public Policy Analysis director - lectured at the table of International Cooperation, Transnational Organizations and Opportunities, which discussed how the various international organizations can promote the Ibero-American cooperation in the political, economic, cultural and social fields. Ruediger also spoke about social movements and the internet, and presented a movie that contextualized the discussion.The Ibero-American Cooperation and Development International Seminar took place on March 6-7 at Casa da América, and it was aimed at public managers, students, social activists, journalists, businesspeople and representatives of public and private companies. Please click here and learn more.
