In February, FGV/EPGE - Brazilian School of Economics continued holding the Temas Contemporâneos (Contemporary Issues) series event and started this year's debates with the subject ?Descriminalização do consumo, comércio e produção de drogas ilícitas? (Decriminalization of consumption, trade and production of illicit drugs) - under the coordination of Professor Luis Henrique Braido and the mediation of Afonso Arinos Neto.Braido began the lecture by presenting some points on the issue, commenting on the liberal, conservative and medical views. He talked about the theory of choice, which exalts the freedom of each individual to make choices and take responsibility for the risks inherent in them. Externality problems associated with drug use, such as the degradation of public space, parental neglect and violent crime were also discussed as well as the social costs of prohibition - such as armed conflicts over the income generated with drug trafficking. On March 25th, the theme was ?Aspectos econômicos da doação/transferência de órgãos?. Os alunos? (Economic aspects of donation/transfer of organs).  Students prepared a script with some questions that guided the debate and one of the most discussed issues was the creation of a market for the sale of organs. In the students' opinion, this market should be very well regulated, since it would likely favor people with higher incomes.  On the other hand, there could be an increase in the supply of organs.  One downside would be a higher incentive to the trade of organs in the black market. The next meetings will be held in April and already have an agenda: on the 8th, the topic will be Career in Focus, with the internship and job placement department and the DA of Economics. On the 15th, the guest will be Carlos Minc. The objective of the Temas Contemporêneos series is to discuss current issues from the perspective of different areas of knowledge. The lectures always take place at 2 pm, in the auditorium of FGV's main offices in Rio de Janeiro.
