The professor of the Brazilian School of Public and Business Administration (FGV/EBAPE), Sonia Fleury, was invited by França Internacional Radio to talk about the new phenomenon that has recently taken over the shopping malls in Brazil: the rolezinhos(small movement events). In the interview, the political scientist analyzed the meetings as a class action that exposes the preferences of young people in a consumer society, but can also be seen as a political demonstration. This collective action transposes the limits imposed by society, thus becoming a political demonstration, regardless of the awareness that each of them has individually. The Brazilian society that was happy with the rise of the new Brazilian middle class in the consumer market is in panic facing the possibility of young people seeking the same. The rolezinhos are a phenomena that criticize and highlight this line that characterizes the social segregation in Brazilian society, she said in the interview. The rolezinhos are gatherings of young people from the suburbs in shopping centers (malls), organized through social networks, which has faced rejection by merchants and repressive measures by the authorities. Please click here to listen to the interview of Sonia Fleury to França Internacional Radio (in Spanish).
