Logistics infrastructure is the main challenge for Brazilian agribusiness in 2014. So says the researcher from the Brazilian Institute of Economics (FGV/IBRE), Daniela Rocha, in an interview to Agência Brasil. According to Daniela, although the country has recorded high productivity last year and the prospects of an increase in crops for this year, the infrastructure problems prevent production to be properly distributed. Production has increased because of technological advances, but we are having trouble with distribution, she says. The economist supports concession auctions for ??transport infrastructure and investments in waterways, ports and railways, for example, which can be connected.  According to Daniela, the focus of the planning only on road transportation should be reconsidered. It cannot only rely on roads, because there is the issue of mileage. The best alternative is to combine with other types of transportation, otherwise freight costs will highly increase, she says. She also recalls that the federal government has already taken a big step with the concessions of ports, roads, airports and railways; however, the results of the first auctions should take some time to be felt. In three or four years, Daniela estimates.
