The Centre for Sustainability Studies (GVces) of São Paulo School of Business Administration (FGV/EAESP) announced the publication Innovation and Sustainability in the Value Chain: Waste and Post-Consumption (ISCV), which brings nine cases of innovation in sustainability in the field of waste and post-consumption of small and medium enterprises in the value chain of large Brazilian companies, besides contemplating the world and the Brazilian scenario in the theme.Produced in 2013, the edition mentions data showing an intensification of waste generation due to population, urban agglomerations and economic growth: according to the World Bank, urban solid waste produced annually by the cities on the planet is estimated to be 1.3 billion tons, and the amount generated per person has nearly doubled in the last decade. In Brazil, the study shows that waste generation is also linked to economic performance.  In 2008, economic growth was 5.2%, and the amount of household and public solid waste generated per day was estimated at 188 tons this year - which means an increase of 35% compared to the amount sent to landfills in 2000.The 2013 ISCV work tried to contribute to a systemic view of waste management, identifying opportunities for innovation in the relationship among governments, businesses and people in sustainability practices. Please click here and learn about the study Innovation and Sustainability in the Value Chain: Waste and Post-Consumption 2013 (in Portuguese).
