Free courses by FGV Online reach a diversified audience

The Distance Learning Program of Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV Online), sponsored by Icatu Seguros, has been offering free personal finance courses since 2011. The first three of them - How to organize family budget, How to Plan for Retirement and How to make investments - have totaled 850,000 visits, 520,000 enrolments and 270,000 issued certificates, and became popular with a diversified audience, as indicated by Valor Econômico newspaper.This year, these courses represented 23% of all enrollments for the free subjects offered by FGV Online. 59% of the students are women, over 40% are people between 25 and 35 years old, one third of the students live in the state of São Paulo, 46% hold an undergraduate degree, a third holds a Business Administration degree and 77% earn up to BRL 2,000 a month, states the professor of São Paulo School of Business (FGV/EAESP), Fabio Gallo, who prepared the courses.According to him, the objective is to discuss the topic in various forums, in a moment that the country is experiencing a more disciplined inflation and lower interest rates. The professor also mentions different research articles that show the population's lack of financial knowledge.
