Survey carried out by FGV reveals tourism industry improvement

Brazilian tourism is more competitive in 2013. That is what the new publication of the National Tourism Competitiveness Index points out - a tool developed by the Ministry of Tourism, Sebrae and Fundação Getulio Vargas to measure the development level of tourism in the country. The study evaluated the development of 13 aspects that make up tourism activity: general infrastructure, quality of access, services and tourist facilities, attractions, tourism marketing and promotion, public policy, regional cooperation, monitoring, local economy, entrepreneurship capability, and social, environmental and cultural aspects. In this edition, Brazil showed further progress in the categories of tourist facilities (which increased from 52 to 56.8), local economy (60.8 to 63.6) and entrepreneurship (59.3 to 61.2), considering 2011 and 2013 data, respectively. The country has also achieved the highest overall score since 2008 - when the first index results were made available. The research identified an improvement in the national average (from 52.1 to 58.8), in the average of capital cities (from 59.5 to 66.9) and the average of non-capital cities (from 46.9 to 53.1), from 2008 to 2013.The cities that presented the best results were São Paulo (80.3), Porto Alegre (79.8) and Rio de Janeiro (78.7) on a scale ranging from 0 to 100. Vitória is the capital that evolved the most (from 66.7 to 73.9), considering the last two survey data of 2011 and 2013. Whereas among non-capital cities, Corumbá (MS) was the city that has developed the most in the past two years (from 48.6 to 57.7).In FGV, the survey was coordinated by the specialist of FGV Projetos Luiz Gustavo Medeiros Barbosa. Please click to learn more about the results of the National Tourism Competitiveness Guide (in Portuguese).
