FGV debates in Mexico the participation of the Americas in global governance

Fundação Getulio Vargas, the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) and the Consejo Mexicano de Asuntos Internacionales (COMEXI) held on November 24th-26th in Mexico City, the Council of Councils Americas Regional Conference and Hemispheric Meeting of Councils on International Relations.In order to analyze the future of the Americas in global governance, the event discussed issues such as the concept of Latin America, its presence in multilateral and bilateral trade arrangements, the role of the G20 in global economics and politics, organized crime and drugs in the Americas and energy issues in the region. Among other findings, the need for strengthening the cooperation ties between Mexico and Brazil was addressed.The conference also included presentations by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mexico, José Antonio Meade Kuribreña and the General Secretary of the Organization of American States, José Miguel Insulza, and speeches by many politicians, diplomats and scholars from the participating countries.Representing FGV, the event was attended by its President, Carlos Ivan Simonsen Leal; the coordinator of the International Relations Center at FGV, Elena Lazarou; the director of FGV Energy, Carlos Quintella, the coordinator of FGV's Regulation Center, Joisa Dutra; and FGV/EPGE's professor, Sérgio Costa Werlang.About the Council of CouncilsThe Council of Councils is an initiative of the Council on Foreign Relations that brings together global think tanks to promote discussion and collaboration in research and policy solutions in international relations.Fundação Getulio Vargas is one of its founding members - listed from the G20, group of the world's twenty largest economies.
