The Third Age Consumer Price Index (IPC-3i), calculated by the Brazilian Institute of Economics of Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV/IBRE), decelerated and recorded a 0.19% change in the third quarter of 2013. In 12 months, the IPC-3i accumulated a 4.96% increase. With this result, the indicator change rate remained below the accumulated rate by the IPC-BR, which was 5.29%, within the same period.In the transition from the second to the third quarter of 2013, the IPC-3i rate recorded a decrease of 1.07 percentage points (p.p.), retreating from 1.26% to 0.19%. Among the eight expense categories comprising the index, the main influence was the Food group, decreasing from 0.55% to minus 1.79%. The item that most influenced the behavior of this group was greens and vegetables, which fell by 33.25% in the third quarter, compared to a 4.04% decrease in the previous quarter.The following groups were also an influence to the IPC-3i decrease: Health and Personal Care, Housing, Transportation and Apparel.The IPC-3i measures the change in the consumption basket of families comprised of mostly 60-plus year old people.The next publication of the IPC-3i will refer to the 4^th quarter of 2013 and will happen on January 14, next year.
