On October 8, FGV's Rio de Janeiro Law School (FGV/DIREITO RIO) welcomed the Olympic Games Committee?s director of operations in Atlanta, A.D.Frazier, to discuss the challenges and opportunities of Rio as the host for the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympics. The objective of the event - a partnership with Harvard Law School Association of Brazil, Harvard University Club and the U.S. Consulate in Rio de Janeiro - was to bring the experience of the Atlanta Games and discuss the impact of mega events in the carioca capital. According to Frazier's evaluation, it is a privilege to host the Olympics, but we should not expect long-term economic benefits. He also stressed the care that society must have with the amount invested by the government. This is a period of uncertainty and speculation. The population must adopt a cautious attitude, because unlike Atlanta, you rely on public spending, he warned.Questioned about the infrastructure problems of Rio de Janeiro, Frazier answered that there is not enough time to restructure the transport system, for example.  There's no need for a sophisticated transport plan. Forbidding car circulation and encouraging the use of buses are simple solutions which solve mobility problems, he said.A.D.Frazier is currently the president of Georgia Oak Partners, a private equity investments platform for the south region of the United States.
