The Consumer Confidence Index (ICC) calculated by FGV's Brazilian Institute of Economics (FGV/IBRE) increased by 1.0% between August and September 2013, and reached 114.2 points - the highest level since February, but it is still below the historical average of 114.9 points. In the last two months, the favorable evolution of the ICC was motivated by the recovery of the evaluations of consumers regarding the economy at the present time. After a strong decrease in June and July, the indicator that measures the economic situation at the moment (ISA), up 4.5% in September, returned to the level of June, although it is still below the level of May (85.1 points), the period before the popular demonstrations.Between August and September, the proportion of consumers who considered the current situation of the economy as good decreased from 17.4% to 17.3%, and those who evaluated it as bad went down from 37.8% to 34.1%.The Survey of Consumer Expectations is based on a sample of about 2,000 households, located in seven of the main Brazilian capitals. The data collection for this edition was carried out between August 30 and September 19.Please click and check out the complete analysis.
