It is more expensive to maintain a car in Brazil today than last year. According to a survey conducted by economist André Braz, researcher at Fundação Getulio Vargas? Brazilian Institute of Economics (FGV/IBRE), in the accumulated 12 months (from September 2012 to August 2013), the change of the majority of expenses with cars registered a 5.54% increase above inflation found in the same period.Parking and garages increased by 12.33%; repairs by 8.05%; cleaning and lubrication, 7.31%; parts and accessories, 5.39%. In addition, fuel is also weighing more in the pocket: the price of diesel oil increased 9.43% compared to 2012; natural gas for cars, 7.82 %; gasoline, 5.03 %; and ethanol, 2.15%.However, the average expenditure on cars remained at 3.01%. Gasoline remains at the same lagged price, but there is not a clear indication of adjustment for 2013 , says Braz, who supports a price adjustment for gasoline this year to decrease inflationary pressures in 2014.Also according to the economist, the prices of services may continue to increase in the coming months, since demand will be greater than the offer due to the heating of the car sale market. And for those who plan to buy a brand new or used car, good news: the price of new vehicles is below the average inflation (5.54%), and registered a 2.58% increase. Now, if the objective is to buy a used one, the advantage is even better: there was a decrease of 3.66% compared to the same period in 2012.
