On April 9, FGV welcomed a delegation from the Agulhas Negras Military Academy in Resende, Rio de Janeiro State. Led by Colonel Janilson Campos Teixeira, head of the academy’s Teaching Division, the delegation sought to find out more about FGV’s educational infrastructure, especially its practices related to knowledge based on artificial intelligence, as well as its laboratories and classrooms supported by digital technology.

The delegation was welcomed by professors Irapoan Cavalcanti, Bianor Scelza Cavalcanti and Guilherme Marques and by Colonel Evandro Vaz, FGV advisor on defense issues.

During the visit, the delegation had the opportunity to get to know the School of Communication, Media and Information (FGV ECMI), where they were welcomed by the vice dean, Professor Ana Guedes, as well as several professors and researchers, who presented the school’s laboratories and its main advances and activities involving the application of data science, artificial intelligence and other technologies to innovate and propose solutions in the field of communication.

The delegation then went to the School of Applied Mathematics (FGV EMAp), where they were received by its dean, Professor César Camacho, as well as several professors and researchers, who presented the school’s main experiences in applying sophisticated mathematical techniques and computational models based on AI and data science to the numerous challenges of the information and knowledge age.

The visit by the Agulhas Negras Military Academy underscores FGV’s recognition and credibility within the military education system as an institution at the forefront of knowledge production and application.

Accredited by the Brazilian Armed Forces as a Strategic Defense Contractor, FGV stands out as one of the country’s main contributors to the national defense sector in the areas of scientific production, teaching and dissemination. FGV’s partnership with the defense establishment has grown steadily over the last two decades, involving applied research and courses structured and run in conjunction with the Armed Forces, culminating in the academic and professional training of more than 6,300 military officers, 200 of whom went on to become generals.
