President of German Constitutional Court speaks about environmental protection and climate at event
The German Embassy in Brazil, in partnership with FGV Justice and the School of Communication, Media and Information (FGV ECMI), and with the support of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, is holding a lecture by the president of the Federal Constitutional Court of Germany, Stephan Harbarth. This public event will take place on May 10, at 10:30 a.m., in FGV’s main building in Rio de Janeiro.
This in-person event will be presided over by Justice Luis Felipe Salomão of the Brazilian Superior Court of Appeals, who is responsible for coordinating the FGV Center for Judicial Innovation, Research and Administration (FGV Justice). Justice Gilmar Mendes of the Brazilian Federal Supreme Court will provide comments on Harbarth’s lecture.
The event will present the main decisions made by the German Constitutional Court in relation to climate change and environmental protection in the present context marked by global challenges on the environmental and energy agendas.

On that occasion, for the first time, it defined what the state must do to fulfill its constitutional obligation to “protect the natural foundations of life” and assume “responsibility for future generations.
FGV’s involvement in this meeting reflects its commitment to social responsibility practices and ESG issues.
