The International Conference "30 Years of Constitution: Democracy, Institutions and Reality", organized by FGV's Rio de Janeiro Law School (Direito Rio), aims to critically discuss the current state of Brazilian Constitutional Law, discussing the process of construction of democratic institutions and their current reality, considering specifically that this anniversary means a generational transition with direct impacts on Constitutional Law and the political reality of Brazil.
The event aims to critically debate the current state of Brazilian constitutional law, discussing the process of building democratic institutions and their current reality, considering specifically that this anniversary represents a generational transition with direct impacts on constitutional law and the political reality of Brazil.
The topics that will be discussed include “Constitutionality Control and Supremocracy”; “Democracy and Political System”; “Constitution and Penal Guarantees”; “Constitutional Law and Reality”; “Constituent and Democracy”; “Fundamental Rights and Reality”; "Separation and Conflict of Powers”; and “Economic Order and Regulation”.
The Conference will be attended by Federal Supreme Court Justices Luis Roberto Barroso and Alexandre de Moraes, former Minister of Justice José Eduardo Cardozo, former Attorney General Rodrigo Janot, and Federal Accounting Court (TCU) Judge Bruno Dantas. The event will also include members of the international legal community, such as Mattias Kumm (NYU/WZB Berlin) and Carlos Bernal Pulido (Constitutional Court of Colombia). The Dean of Direito Rio, professor Sérgio Guerra, will open the event, which will also include several professors from the School.
