Administration in military environments and national defense is theme of new book by FGV Publisher
The book addresses modern-day aspects of national defense strategic management, people management, the relevance of culture and multiculturalism, emotional and psychological work in military actions, leadership, and logistics.

Steering clear of armed conflicts for quite some time, Brazil has got used to associating the term ‘defense’ strictly with times of war and military action. The book ‘Desafios gerenciais em defesa’ [Defense management challenges], published by FGV Publisher, seeks to demystify this paradigm and addresses the challenges of managing major institutions such as the Armed Forces.
Organized by professors Paulo Roberto Motta, from Fundação Getulio Vargas, Valentina Gomes Haensel Schmitt, and Carlos Antonio Raposo de Vasconcellos, both holding graduate degrees from FGV, the book addresses modern-day aspects of national defense strategic management, people management, the relevance of culture and multiculturalism, emotional and psychological work in military actions, leadership, and logistics.
The studies consider the need to leverage the promotion of organizational knowledge to enhance autonomy and accomplishment, in addition to fostering strategic actions that allow organizations to generate more value and improve their respective activities.
The book is a result of recent incentives to increase interdisciplinary knowledge on defense policies and management. The subject is still understudied in Brazil, despite the common ground between the development of military sciences and their influence on administrative studies. The book also represents a new inclusion in the contemporary world, because the progress of administrative science in recent years has been interdisciplinary, particularly from a public policy standpoint.
