Book titled “Personal Archives: Experiences at CPDOC” is launched in Rio de Janeiro
The book provides an overview of the challenges, advances and transformations that have taken place in the organization and dissemination of FGV CPDOC’s personal archive collection over the last two decades

“Arquivos Pessoais: Experiências no CPDOC” (“Personal Archives: Experiences at CPDOC”), a book organized by Celso Castro, Martina Spohr and Thais Blank, and published by FGV Press, presents the practices, challenges and innovations that have marked the trajectory of the Personal Archives Program (PAP) at Fundação Getulio Vargas’ School of Social Sciences (FGV CPDOC) since its foundation. The book celebrates the more than 50 years of PAP, focusing on the innovations experienced in the last 20 years, shedding a contemporary and multidisciplinary perspective on the work of the institution.
The topics covered include the contribution of women to the development of FGV CPDOC and the importance of women’s archives in the collection, experiences and challenges faced in creating spaces specially designed for the preservation of documents, methodological and technological innovations adopted, and dissemination strategies. The book also discusses the organization of born-digital sources, highlighting the growing importance of these materials in the collection.
Offering a comprehensive view of the evolution of archival practices at FGV CPDOC, the book reflects on the importance of preserving memories and heritage for society.
FGV CPDOC
FGV CPDOC, established as a center for the preservation and organization of the personal archives of important figures in Brazil’s contemporary history, began its activities in 1973 with the mission of safeguarding documents of historical significance and making them available for public consultation.
The collection, which began with the archives of Brazilian political figures, has expanded over the years to include the personal collections of various other types of people, such as intellectuals, journalists, social scientists and activists.
