Digital curation expert from British Library to give lecture at FGV
Aquiles Alencar Brayner will discuss how methodologies developed in digital labs have been making it easier for researchers and other users to interact with digital objects, by offering new interpretations and applications.

The Digital Humanities Laboratory (LHuD) of FGV’s School of Social Sciences (CPDOC) will host the lecture titled “Digital Labs: a new concept in research and dissemination of electronic collections in institutions of cultural memory,” featuring Aquiles Alencar Brayner, from the British Library, on April 26 at 2:30 p.m.
Based on examples from the British Library Labs (BL Labs) and the research project “African-Brazilian BNDigital Collection”, from the Brazilian National Library, Aquiles Alencar Brayner will discuss how methodologies developed in digital labs have been making it easier for researchers and other users to interact with digital objects, by offering new interpretations and applications.
The event aims to shed light onto how the application of information and communication technologies (ICTs) among digital collections of academic and cultural memory institutions has revolutionized the research and distribution of electronic content for access, description and reuse.
Aquiles Alencar Brayner has been the British Library’s Digital Curator since 2006. He is currently a resident researcher responsible for creating the African-Brazilian BNDigital collection at Fundação Biblioteca Nacional [Brazilian National Library Foundation]. Brayner has a degree in Psychology from UFC and in Latin-American Studies from Rijks Universiteit Leiden (Netherlands), a master’s degree in Latin-American Literature from Rijks Universiteit, a master’s degree in Information Science from the City University of London, and a PhD in Brazilian Literature from the King’s College London.
The event will be held at Casa Acervo CPDOC [CPDOC Archive House], located at Rua Jornalista Orlando Dantas, 60, Botafogo, Rio de Janeiro.
