Discussion to encourage reflection on the use of digital technologies for the preservation of historic heritage
The event aims to foster discussions that might generate proposals for the field, creating a knowledge network whose main goal is to discuss and present technological solutions that contemplate the sector’s demands.

FGV’s School of Applied Mathematics (EMAp) and School of Social Sciences (CPDOC) will hold the “1st Panorama on Digital Technologies for Museums” on November 27, starting at 8 a.m. The event aims to foster discussions that might generate proposals for the field, creating a knowledge network whose main goal is to discuss and present technological solutions that contemplate the sector’s demands.
The seminar, held in partnership with the National Museum/UFRJ, will include some of the main names in the sector to map out the needs of this area. The discussions are aimed at converging demands and solutions, in light of digital reality, for the preservation of cultural heritage. The theme is present throughout the community around the world, as well as in Brazil.
In the Brazilian scenario, specifically, the National Museum disaster further evidences the need for discussions on new resources that can contribute to the protection and preservation of cultural, artistic, historical and scientific assets in the country.
On the other hand, digital technologies have been already tried in all phases of the processes related to the protection and preservation of cultural and artistic assets, from research to the dissemination and popularization of the objects of study. In light of the disaster scenario, all players operating in the sector need to react, revisiting experiences from cases implemented in the past, as well as state-of-the-art solutions and current experiences, in order to enhance the ability of making proposals that might collaborate in the present context. A stronger knowledge network on the subject is required.
