FGV Master’s candidates join international module in the U.S.

In partnership with Rutgers Business School (U.S.), FGV’s Brazilian School of Public and Business Administration (EBAPE) held the immersion module ‘Doing Business in USA: Public-Private Institutional Relations’, in New Jersey. The program was offered exclusively to students from the Executive Master’s in Business Management (MEX) and the Professional Master’s in Public Administration (MAP).
Coordinated by professors Alexander Settles (Rutgers University) and Joaquim Rubens Fontes Filho (EBAPE), the module was created to bring students closer to the local business environment and the public sector, providing cultural visits and lectures at Rutgers’ campus in Newark. Students had an overview of how successful companies operate in the U.S., including theoretical references, relevant business models, and sharing best governance practices at local, state, and federal levels.
The Rutgers module also featured guest lecturers, who illustrated how certain issues in the North American business and public sectors are linked to the global environment, allowing students to apply this hands-on experience to their management knowledge. In addition to the lectures, students also visited the port of Newark, the Senate, the General Assembly in Trenton (capital of New Jersey), the New Jersey State Department, where they learned about the state’s commercial expansion program, and the New York Federal Reserve (FED), where they took a tour and sat through a lecture with one of the FED’s lead economists about institution’s inner workings.
Immersion modules in partnership with international institutions are offered twice a year for EBAPE’s Professional Master’s students and have been one of the course’s main earmarks due to the diversity of topics covered. In 2016, MEX and MAP students had the opportunity to participate in international modules in Chile and Spain (pages in Portuguese).
