The Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE) hosted the seminar titled “Challenges of Brazil’s Foreign Policy” to discuss the book with the same name, written and edited by FGV professors — Marcos Tourinho, Matias Spektor, Oliver Stuenkel and Umberto Mignozzetti —, among other experts in Brazil’s foreign relations and different areas of expertise. Held on March 15 at Palácio do Itamaraty, in Brasília, the event was sponsored by Fundação Konrad Adenauer (KAS) and supported by the Brazilian Center for International Relations (CEBRI).
The seminar was opened and chaired by the Secretary General of the MRE, Ambassador Marcos Galvão. Each session featured Brazilian ambassadors and directors from several different units of the Brazilian Government. The seminar broke new ground by addressing foreign policy as a public policy, particularly focusing on healthcare diplomacy, anti-corruption diplomacy, and the use of political risk models for the strategic analysis of foreign policy.
The book compiles a series of research projects led by the Center for International Relations of Fundação Getulio Vargas, based at the School of Social Sciences (CPDOC). The book recognizes the importance of ensuring diversification among knowledge production methods, investing not only in specialized studies, but also on a strategic reflection regarding the challenges and outlooks of Brazil’s foreign policy, employing clear and objective language to reach the general public and guarantee broad dissemination regarding Brazil’s position in the world.
The book resulting was launched in December last year and is available for download on CEBRIs website.
