Impact of mega events on sports research assessed at conference
In partnership with Universidade Federal de Goiás [Goiás Federal University] (UFG), FGV’s School of Social Sciences (CPDOC) will host the Conference “After sports mega events: a review on sports research in Brazil.” Researchers will gather on March 30 and April 10 to discuss the legacy of the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympic Games.
Fernando Segura Trejo, from UFG’s Department of Sociology, will address the topic of social inclusion on March 30, in Rio de Janeiro. In addition to the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Paralympics, his research also includes the 2016 Eurocup – Europe’s largest soccer tournament, held in France. Trejo’s lecture is titled: “Between the 2014 World Cup, the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games and the Eurocup in France: a follow-up on the events and the agenda of social inclusion through sports.”
The Conference will continue in Goiás on April 10. CPDOC professor, Bernardo Buarque, and researcher Daniela Alfonsi (USP and Museu do Futebol [Soccer Museum]) will speak about the memory and heritage of the world’s most popular sport. The lecture theme will be “Soccer, memory and heritage & Territórios do Torcer [Territories of Fandom] – an analysis of the deployment of two Oral History projects for the Soccer Museum’s collection.”
