New edition of Audiovisual Production Workshop addresses “Women in History”

The Audiovisual and Documentary Center of FGV’s School of Social Sciences (CPDOC) kicks off the selection process for students enrolled in undergraduate and graduate courses interested in making short documentaries (up to 15 minutes) under the theme “Women in History”. The idea is for all productions to use the photographic collection of CPDOC’s personal archives or interviews of the Oral History Program as a starting point. Candidates must submit their drafts by July 31.

The organizing committee will select up to 15 candidates to participate in a five-day workshop, between September 24 and 28, 2018, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., at FGV’s main office (Praia de Botafogo, 190. Botafogo, Rio de Janeiro/RJ).

Students will participate in lectures with professors, technical experts and documentary makers, and learn how to research the CPDOC’s collection. Text documents (manuscripts and print media), audiovisual media (photographs, cartoons, caricatures and videos) and oral history interviews that make up the collection can be used to complement the initial proposal of the documentary. After completing this first workshop, participants will have until October 15 to submit the scripts. Four projects will be selected for a second meeting, held between November 5 and 9, when participants will be divided into groups to edit the films at CPDOC’s Audiovisual and Documentary Center.

CPDOC’s collection gathers two hundred archives on public persons of prominent positions in Brazil, in addition to a few archives on political parties, which are precious sources for Brazilian and foreign researchers interested in Brazilian contemporary history and related fields. The collection’s photographic records are available online. The oral history collection has more than 1,000 interviews, most of which are available on the portal.
