Seminar in Portugal discusses contribution of archives for collective memory construction

Carolina Gonçalves Alves, Documentation and Information Analyst of FGV’s School of Social Sciences (CPDOC), participated in the 9thInternational Seminar on Archival Knowledge (SESA). The event brought together Portuguese and Brazilian experts in Archival and Information Science, on March 6-9, at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Coimbra (FLUC), with the aim of promoting a dialogue between experts from various countries and discussing the contribution of archives to the constitution of the collective memory of the countries of the Lusophone world.

At the event, dedicated to the subject “Archive(s) and Identity(ies)”, she presented a study on the personal women’s files deposited at the FGV CPDOC. As a result of collective reflections carried out by the team involved in the organization of the women’s archives of the Faculty, the work aims to give visibility to the documents and, consequently, to women’s narratives of Brazilian Contemporary History.

At the same event, Alves talked about the prospects and challenges on the use of social networks in the diffusion of the CPDOC collection. This debate is carried out within the scope of the Dissemination Project of the School of Social Sciences Archive, whose purpose is to expand the reach of the historical documents kept by the institution. Considering that the CPDOC brings together a referential documentary set for the country’s recent history, the project proposes to use social networks as a tool to disseminate the collection in order to attract a new audience.
