Winter School addresses digital humanities and computational social sciences
The school will hold a series of workshops and lectures between June and August 2022, in virtual (synchronous), hybrid or in-person format, in the city of Rio de Janeiro.
From June to August 2022, Fundação Getulio Vargas’ School of Social Sciences (FGV CPDOC) is running a Winter School in the Digital Humanities and Computational Social Sciences, as part of the “Data Science and Social Sciences” project, funded by the Brazilian government’s CAPES-PrInt International Development Program.
The school will hold a series of workshops and lectures between June and August 2022, in virtual (synchronous), hybrid or in-person format, in the city of Rio de Janeiro. Half of the events will be in English and the other half in Portuguese, covering topics such as the semantic web, APIs for digital archives, programming in Python and R, mixed methods in social sciences, as well as data-driven research methodologies for digital humanities and tools for reproducibility in data-intensive projects.
The goal is to improve participants’ technical skills and encourage the formation of networks between peers who work with computational methods and digital tools in the fields of social sciences and history, as well as at cultural institutions such as archives, museums and documentation centers.
The team of professors and debaters includes researchers from FGV CPDOC itself, the Moreira Salles Institute and foreign institutions such as Princeton University, the University of Washington, Peruvian Catholic University, the University of Zurich, the University of Vienna and the Austrian Centre for Digital Humanities.
