Workshop to be held on cinema during the lockdown

The Audiovisual and Documentary Center at the FGV´s School of Social Sciences (FGV CPDOC) is holding a four-day online workshop on “Cinema During the Lockdown.” The event, aimed at undergraduate and graduate students, will take place on May 20, 21, 22 and 25, from 3 pm to 6 pm, featuring specialists in the area of cinema. To participate, you must sign up by May 11.

The workshop will debate the concepts of amateur cinema, archive films and videos shot during the lockdown. After this first stage, selected students will be able to make films in partnership with FGV CPDOC’s team.

After the meetings, which will be held on the Zoom platform, the participants will have until June 7 to submit a preliminary script for the videos to be produced. A committee will select up to three proposals to be produced in the workshop’s second stage.

These films must be based on topics discussed during the workshop and follow the model script that will be provided to participants. One of the workshop’s goals is to help students think about how the current pandemic is reflected in everyday life, through amateur filmmaking.

The participants may use any recording devices they have access to, such as cameras, smartphones, recorders or archive materials. The aim is to sensitively look at everyday life within the lockdown’s limitations.
