Call for papers: International conference discusses development of public policies
The International Development and Public Policy Alliance (IDPPA) will host the conference “Knowledge for Policymaking: From Practice to Theory” in Cape Town, South Africa, from January 8-11, 2019. The international consortium, formed by 10 institutions from China, Russia, India, South Africa, Turkey, Egypt, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Brazil – where it is represented by FGV’s School of Social Sciences (CPDOC) –, invites professors and researchers interested in participating in the event to submit their papers by September 15.
The Conference will promote debate surrounding the dominant approach to face the issue of development. Many narratives related to development are the means by which dominant players impose their view of reality upon others, suggest agendas and social practices, and condemn certain social conventions. Such narratives often strengthen power hierarchies and replicate themselves without a qualified discussion on the dimension of power involved in the development agenda.
Based on this background, the conference will discuss topics such as public policymaking, its strengths and weaknesses; alternative development agenda; and practical knowledge for public policymaking.
