The Sao Paulo School of Economics (FGV EESP) and Brazilian School of Economics and Finance (FGV EPGE) won the Prize for Best Dissertations in the fifth edition of the CAPES-Elsevier Awards. Scientific publisher Elsevier and the Brazilian Education Ministry’s graduate education support agency (CAPES) held this year’s ceremony on December 5 in CAPES’ main office in Brasilia.
The following dissertations won awards:
- Empirical Essays on Human Capital, authored by FGV EESP student Luiz Felipe Fontes, under the supervision of Professor Bruno Ferman;
- The Economics of Amazon Deforestation: Drivers, Consequence, and Policies to Stop It, authored by FGV EPGE student Rafael de Araujo, under the supervision of Professor Francisco da Costa.
The winning papers were selected based on analysis of scientific production and metrics extracted from Elsevier’s SciVal tool, which offers quick and easy access to research results from more than 20,000 institutions in 230 countries around the world.

“I would like to express my gratitude to CAPES and Elsevier for establishing the CAPES-Elsevier Awards, which recognize the efforts of Brazilian researchers in various fields of knowledge.
