FGV EPGE holds webinar to launch Minister Ernane Galvêas Awards
The aim of the awards is to recognize and encourage the production of excellent academic papers by FGV EPGE students, encompassing the school’s undergraduate, professional master’s, academic master’s and doctoral programs.
On August 13, Fundação Getulio Vargas’ Brazilian School of Economics and Finance (FGV EPGE) held a webinar to launch the Minister Ernane Galvêas Awards.
The aim of the awards is to recognize and encourage the production of excellent academic papers by FGV EPGE students, encompassing the school’s undergraduate, professional master’s, academic master’s and doctoral programs, rewarding innovative methods and significant contributions to understanding of national and international economic issues. The awards are named in honor of Ernane Galvêas, presently the coordinator of the National Commerce Confederation’s Economic Council and a member of Fundação Getulio Vargas’ Management Board. A prestigious and renowned protagonist and analyst on Brazil’s economic stage, Galvêas has held senior public positions, most notably finance minister from 1980 to 1985 and president of the Central Bank from 1968 to 1974 and from 1979 to 1980.
During the launch event, the president of FGV, Carlos Ivan, described Galvêas as an “exceptional Brazilian who has done a lot for the country and continues to fight relentlessly to use his economic rationality to support state policy decisions in Brazil.” Finally, the dean of EPGE, Rubens Penha Cysne, invited all the school’s students to take part in the awards, which will grant a lot of prestige to the winners.
The launch event was attended by Carlos Ivan Simonsen Leal, FGV’s president; José Féres, FGV EPGE’s undergraduate coordinator; FGV EPGE professor Layla Mendes; and Rubens Penha Cysne, FGV EPGE’s dean.
