Four Brazilian state capitals register inflation rate increase

Published on December 31, 2016 by FGV’s Brazilian Institute of Economics (IBRE), the Weekly Consumer Price Index (IPC-S) varied 0.33%, 0.09 percentage point (p.p.) above the last published rate. Four of seven Brazilian state capitals surveyed recorded greater increases in prices.

Comparing the percentage variations in municipalities across all seven capitals surveyed by the index, Rio de Janeiro showed the highest variation in the last two indexes (0.27 to 0.55). Besides Rio, the index also rose in the cities of Belo Horizonte (-0.01 to 0.10), Recife (0.72 to 0.74) and Porto Alegre (-0.10 to 0.09).

The next regional IPC-S will be published on January 10.
